Three commuters were dead and 10 others sustained injuries as two motorbikes collided with two cars on a road simultaneously in northern Afghanistan's Sari Pul province on Monday, a news release of provincial police said.

Blaming reckless driving for the deadly accident, the short news release added that police had taken the injured persons, some in critical condition, to the nearby hospital.

Monday was the third day of Eid al-Adha, and reportedly, a series of road accidents had taken place in parts of the country.

A similar road accident claimed two lives and injured four others in eastern Panjshir province during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
