The S&P 500 rose 43.18 points, or 0.58 percent, to close at 7,444.14 points.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 316.54 points, or 1.21 percent, ending at 26,404.74 points.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 66.93 points, or 0.13 percent, to 49,693.63 points.
