Trump's remarks on the reversal of the plan to displace Gaza’s native Palestinian population came during his meeting with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin on Wednesday.
The US President's comment represents a significant contradictory shift from his proposal in February, which suggested that the US take control of the strip and forcibly displace its population of two million to Egypt and Jordan.
Egypt stated that this position reflects an understanding of the need to prevent the humanitarian situation in the strip from worsening, in addition to the importance of working toward fair and lasting solutions to the Palestinian issue.
Egypt believes that Trump’s initiative to end international conflicts and establish peace, including in the Middle East, could serve as a practical framework for achieving this goal, while respecting the Palestinian people's legitimate aspirations, particularly their right to an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt stressed the need to build on this positive approach to achieve peace, emphasizing its commitment to a comprehensive path that ensures stability and security for all parties.
It also called on international and regional parties to intensify efforts to advance the peace process and ensure security and prosperity for the region's peoples.
Following global backlash and resistance from Arab nations, Trump stated that he was not imposing his Gaza plan.
In parallel, to countermeasure Trump’s colonial plan, Egypt proposed an anti-displacement five-year and three-phase Gaza reconstruction plan for $53 billion at the Extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo last week, and it was unanimously approved by Arab nations
