Germany pledged on Monday a further EUR 300 million (roughly USD 326 million) in aid to Syria in support of the Syrian government and people.

This came in remarks made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Brussels, ahead of an EU-led donor conference to raise funds to support Damascus.

Baerbock explained that over half of this amount will directly benefit the Syrian people, through programs focusing on providing food, health services, and emergency shelter, in addition to protection measures for the most vulnerable groups.

She indicated that Syrian refugees and host communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkiye will also receive support, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive political process in Syria in the future.

It is worth noting that the EU announced on February 24 the suspension of several economic sanctions imposed on Syria, which had targeted key economic sectors.
