Portuguese national Carlos Queiroz has been appointed head coach of Ghana's senior men's national football team, the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association confirmed late Monday.
The former coach of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal and Iran will lead Ghana's campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Queiroz has an extensive background in world football, having led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout stage at the 2010 World Cup, and taken Iran to the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
He has also had coaching spells with Egypt, Oman, Japan and Qatar and is expected to begin work with the Black Stars immediately.
Ghana, making its fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
