Malaga was promoted to La Liga from the Spanish second division on Saturday after winning the return leg of the play-off final 2-1 away to Almeria after last weekend's first leg had ended in a 0-0 draw.

Second-half goals from Chupete and Dani Larrubia sealed Malaga's return to the top-flight after being relegated in 2018, in a game that was delayed for half an hour after the Malaga team bus had stones and bottles thrown at it on its way to the ground.

Leo Baptistao gave Almeria hope of a fightback in the 76th minute, but Malaga held on in a tense finish to the game that saw Almeria striker Thalys and Malaga's Aaron Ochoa both see late red cards.

Malaga was promoted after finishing the regular season in fourth place in the second division and defeating Las Palmas in the semi-final of the play-off.
