President of Madagascar Michael Randrianirina appointed Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo as prime minister on Monday.
According to the president, the choice of Rajaonarivelo as the new cabinet chief was motivated, among other reasons, by his "relational skills on the international stage" and his ability to engage in dialogue with the country's economic partners.
A trained economist, Rajaonarivelo is known for his expertise in the fields of industrial economics, employment, and international trade. Over the years, he has worked with institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and the African Development Bank.
This appointment comes three days after Randrianirina was officially sworn in as Madagascar's head of state on Friday.
