The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has re-elected South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe to the presidency of the continent’s governing football body.
The decision was approved at the 14th extraordinary General Assembly, held in Cairo on Wednesday.
Motsepe, the sole candidate for the position, was re-elected by acclamation for a second term, which will extend until 2029. He has held the position since 2021.
In a related context, Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, announced his country’s intention to seek approval from FIFA and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host some matches of the 2034 World Cup.
Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup, becoming the third Arab country to do so, following Qatar in 2022 and Morocco in 2030, which will be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal
