Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob on Tuesday called for peace and reiterated his support for a two-state solution as the only way to lasting stability and security in the Middle East, marking two years since the renewed Israel-Palestine conflict.

Golob said the world still witnesses hostages being held, more than 60,000 civilian deaths in Gaza, and a worsening humanitarian catastrophe that has devastated the region. He criticized the international community for failing to stop the violence and for allowing Israel to act in violation of international law.

Expressing cautious optimism about a new peace initiative, Golob urged that Palestinians be treated as equal partners in future negotiations. "Peace must prevail," he said, adding that a two-state solution is the only way to lasting stability.
