Syria's anti-narcotics department carried out a security raid in the country's eastern desert region, capturing large quantities of illegal drugs, the Syrian interior authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.

The operation led to the confiscation of 246,000 Captagon pills, 105 kg of cannabis, and 500 narcotic Pregabalin tablets, all of which were handled in accordance with judicial procedures, it added.

The authorities said they would continue to track, uncover and dismantle drug-smuggling and distribution networks in an effort to safeguard public safety and protect communities across the country.

In recent months, Syria has stepped up anti-narcotics operations and expanded cooperation with neighboring countries, which has led to the destruction of substantial amounts of illicit substances and the dismantling of several trafficking networks.
