Tokyo stocks closed higher on Tuesday as some heavyweight technology shares were bought following recent declines, though gains were capped by lingering uncertainty over future U.S. tariffs.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 495.39 points, or 0.87 percent, from Friday at 57,321.09. The broader Topix index finished 7.50 points, or 0.20 percent, higher at 3,815.98.

On the top-tier Prime Market, the main gainers were nonferrous metal, glass and ceramics product and precision instrument issues.
