Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the reconstruction and repair of houses for residents affected by recent floods, stressing that the work must be completed before Jan. 15, ahead of the Lunar New Year, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.
After more than one month since the launch of the reconstruction and repair campaign, localities in the central region from Quang Tri to Lam Dong have completed repairs on all 34,759 damaged houses.
Reconstruction has also started on 1,597 houses that were destroyed by the floods, according to the report. Of these, construction of about 671 houses has already been completed.
The prime minister urged local authorities, especially those in Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces, to further mobilize resources and forces to accelerate the rebuilding efforts and ensure the task is completed before Jan. 15, ahead of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and in time for the Lunar New Year.
