A woman was shot dead by police after she attacked passersby with a knife at a central park in Munich.
According to German media reports, the 30-year-old woman injured several people with a knife at Theresienwiese, a large open space in central Munich. Police officers responded to the incident by opening fire, critically wounding the assailant. She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injured, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Germany has seen a sharp rise in knife-related violence in recent years. In 2023, German police recorded approximately 8,951 serious knife attacks -- an increase of 9.7% compared to 2022 -- prompting growing concern among both officials and the public.
