Two people have died and three more hospitalized following separate traffic collisions on Thursday night and Friday morning in the Australian state of Queensland.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said that a 28-year-old male driver was killed and his 26-year-old male passenger hospitalized with serious injuries after a car collided with a power pole in the northern suburbs of Brisbane shortly before 1:30 a.m. local time on Friday.

Hours earlier, the QPS said that emergency services were called to a head-on crash between two utility vehicles on a highway near the small town of Bajool, 480 km northwest of Brisbane, around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 63-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene.

Two occupants of the second vehicle, a 36-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police officers established crime scenes at both locations and commenced investigations into both incidents.

As of Thursday, there had been 45 deaths in 40 fatal crashes on Queensland roads so far in 2026, up from 39 deaths in 36 fatal crashes at the same time in 2025.
