Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has left her government job after an investigation into her tax affairs over her purchase of an £800,000 flat in Hove, East Sussex.
Ms Rayner referred herself to the independent adviser on ministerial standards Sir Laurie Magnus over the issue earlier this week.
She admitted to wrongly listing the flat as her primary residence, which resulted in a lower stamp duty payment, and said she was working with lawyers and HMRC to resolve the matte
Sir Laurie sent his report into her conduct to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Friday, saying her position in government was untenable.
Earlier, Ms Rayner’s conveyancing firm, Verrico & Associates, said they were being made "scapegoats" in the furore over the underpaid tax and had acted in “good faith”.
