The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that an explosion of the Starship spacecraft, owned by SpaceX, caused disruptions to approximately 240 flights.
Due to concerns about falling debris, more than 24 aircraft had to alter their flight paths.
The FAA reported that it ordered departures to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Palm Beach airports in Florida to be halted for nearly an hour.
The incident led to delays for 171 flights, rerouted 28 others, and caused 40 flights to be paused for 22 minutes after passing through the debris response zone.
The average delay for the 171 delayed flights was 28 minutes.
The FAA also requested SpaceX to investigate the Starship explosion, noting that this was the second consecutive explosion during the company's test launch operations.
The FAA had approved SpaceX’s license for the scheduled test flight last February, while its investigation into the previous failure of the Starship project remains ongoing.
