Iraqi security forces killed seven Islamic State (IS) militants in two operations, security authorities said on Friday.

In one operation, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out airstrikes on two hideouts, housing four IS militants in the desert west of the northern Nineveh province, according to a statement from the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.

The airstrikes, which followed days of surveillance by the Military Intelligence Directorate, resulted in the killing of the militants and the destruction of the two hideouts, including their logistical supplies, equipment, and ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi National Security Service reported another operation in the western Anbar province.

According to a statement, its forces "surrounded a terrorist hideout containing the so-called 'Security Official of Anbar' and two of his companions." During the siege, the "terrorists" detonated themselves.

Iraq declared victory over IS in 2017, but remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians in cities, deserts, and remote areas.
