Multiple people were injured on Sunday in a shooting at a church in Grand Blanc, U.S. state of Michigan, according to local police.
The incident occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a small community northwest of Detroit, the Grand Blanc Township Police Department said in a post on Facebook.
"There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is no threat to the public at this time," local police said, urging people to avoid the area as emergency response efforts continued.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said that "the entire church is on fire." Videos on social media showed heavy plumes of smoke coming from the fire at the church.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said that she was receiving updates on the shooting in Grand Blanc.
"My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community," Whitmer wrote in a post on social media. "Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.
