At least 5 dead in train-bus collision in central Mexico

At least five people were killed and four others injured when a train collided with a passenger bus in Comonfort, a municipality in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, local officials said Saturday.

Four women and one man were killed, none of whom had been identified, the Comonfort Civil Protection Department said on social media.

The crash occurred in La Nopalera community at a railroad crossing, where the train collided with the bus and dragged it along the tracks.

Police, rescue workers and emergency medical teams were at the scene providing aid, and the injured were taken to hospitals in Guanajuato, the department added.

Witnesses said the bus driver attempted but failed to outrun the train at the crossing.
