Tokyo stocks ended higher on Friday, as selling on concerns over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East was offset by buybacks of recent decliners.

The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 342.78 points, or 0.62 percent, from Thursday at 55,620.84.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 14.26 points, or 0.39 percent, higher at 3,716.93.

On the stock market, the Nikkei index slid nearly 1.4 percent, or more than 750 points, at one stage in the morning after the benchmark crude oil futures surged to the low 82-dollar-per-barrel range in New York trading on Thursday, the highest level since July 2024, analysts said.

The stock indexes then moved into positive territory on buybacks of heavyweight shares following recent losses.
