US President-Elect Donald Trump has criticized Governor Gavin Newsom for his handling of wildfires in California, claiming that the situation was his fault and that he should step down.
Los Angeles has been hit hard, with 1,500 structures damaged and at least five people killed.
Trump claimed that Newsom refused to sign a declaration allowing millions of gallons of water to enter the state, causing the fires.
He accused Newsom of allowing "worthless" fish to flow into California, causing a catastrophe. Trump later called for Newsom to step down, stating that the US is destroying itself.
The California governor's office responded by stating that Newsom is more concerned with saving lives than politics and ensuring firefighters have the necessary resources.
As thousands of Californians evacuate their homes, Trump has politicized the situation, causing chaos and loss of life.
