Two men have died after their vehicles collided head-on while traveling on a highway south of Sydney on Sunday afternoon.
Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement that emergency services were called to reports of a crash near the town of Batemans Bay, 225 km south of Sydney, at around 1:30 p.m. local time on Sunday and arrived to find two vehicles had collided head-on.
The drivers and sole occupants of both vehicles, men aged 59 and 23, died at the scene.
Officers established a crime scene at the location and have commenced an investigation into the incident.
According to official data, as of Sunday, there had been 167 deaths in road incidents in NSW so far in 2026, up from 165 deaths at the same point in 2025.
In the 12-month period to Sunday, there had been 353 road deaths in NSW compared to 341 deaths in the preceding 12 months.
